ABOUT
Aleksandr Shuvaev
BACKGROUND
A path shaped by music, displacement and transformation
Aleksandr Shuvaev is a composer and producer based in Spain, creating concept-driven music at the intersection of modern classical, ambient, cinematic and progressive heavy music.
Born in 1988 in Kyrgyzstan, then part of the Soviet Union, he began classical training at the age of six. He studied accordion for seven years, performed in an orchestra and participated in national and international competitions, before continuing with five years of classical guitar. At the same time, he became deeply involved in rock and experimental guitar music, later performing as a guitarist and principal songwriter in bands whose sound evolved from nu metal toward progressive metal, mathcore and metalcore. He also worked as a recording and mixing engineer for local metal artists.
From the beginning, his approach to composition was centred on complete concepts rather than isolated riffs or moods. Harmony, dissonance, modulation, unusual rhythm and arrangement were used to give each piece its own internal logic and identity.
In his early twenties, Shuvaev left Kyrgyzstan and moved to Siberia, later relocating to southern Russia. Music gradually gave way to the practical necessity of rebuilding life in new surroundings. In March 2022, he left Russia with his wife and young son, moving first to Turkey and later to Spain. This long trajectory through different countries, repeated displacement and the need to adapt without losing a sense of self became closely connected to the themes he now explores in his work.
After nearly a decade away from composition, he returned through felt piano, ambient music and cinematic sound. He was drawn to the physical intimacy of hammers, pedals, wood and room noise, but also to large reverberant spaces, minimalism, electronic textures and dramatic scale. His current work brings these elements together with the rhythmic and structural instincts of his progressive-metal background.
Shuvaev’s music explores pressure, inner conflict, transformation and the forces that shape human beings. Rather than offering direct answers, each composition functions as a psychological narrative: an attempt to observe what happens to people under changing circumstances and to translate that process into sound.
ARTISTIC APPROACH
Music carries the experience,
The concept reveals the force behind it
Each work exists on two connected levels. Music carries the emotional journey through sound, movement and dramatic form. The underlying concept reveals the psychological process, human condition or invisible force from which that journey emerged.
The concept is not intended to explain every musical decision or impose a single interpretation. It provides a foundation — a way into the world of the composition while leaving space for the listener’s own experience.
